Ok so I just spent the last hour reading all of these articles based on reading your Desperately Seeking Superman piece and you are my new best friend.
You pretty much gave an articulate and passionate voice to all of my concerns for the future of superheroes on film. Your love/hate relationship with Smallville is something I share, however I was only able to make it to season 7 before it became too much for me to bare. From what I’ve heard and read it’s gotten much worse since season 7.
Honestly If I were to count the things that piss me off about that show and what they’ve royaly @#$% ed up I’d b here for a week. Besides You’ve listed quite a bit of those reasons yourself.
I also share your major concerns over the Nolan produced and Zack Snyder Directed Superman movie. I whole heartedly agree with you that Nolan is overrated. I thought I was the only person who saw that. I felt so isolated when everyone around me was singing his praises. Saying that he saved the Batman franchise, but all I saw was this dark, gritty, unadventurusly realistic crime drama that just happend to have Batman in it.
He took One of my all time favorite characters, Batman and sucked all the coolness of the character. The fun. Batman to me has always been Gothic Dark while still maintaining an air of adventure. Dark, but not ultra gritty realistic crime drama dark.
